In 2008, Sean Marckos, the President of Dreamsgate Pictures, was denied entrance to the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival because he is a wheelchair-user, which he has been in since birth due to muscular dystrophy. This incident was a blatant act of discrimination that refused Sean the same rights as his peers.
For the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, Sean sent a letter to the festival organizers, via a lawyer, requesting that they install a ramp on the red carpet to permit universal access for everyone. His request was quickly denied. He also attempted the red carpet again and was rudely refused access and escorted away.
We find the festival's treatment of Sean to be unacceptable, and are refusing to remain complacent about the matter. We are currently in production for Just Imagine, a documentary that deals with image and discrimination and follows Sean as he battles for equality at the Cannes Film Festival. A portion of the proceeds from the film will be donated to disability associations worldwide that are already supporting us, as well as to the Dreamsgate Children's Foundation.
It is shameful that in 2009, these situations are still occurring and we are seeking to raise awareness to prevent these types of injustices from happenning anywhere around the world. We hope you will join us and help make the world a better place for everyone.
